Eco-Great Gifts

I was thrilled when International Business Times covered Suzanne’s Files and our eco-friendly gift ideas.  It’s wonderful that we’re getting the exposure in this category, where other people think our ideas are great too!

If you haven’t checked out the files for eco gifts, definitely take time to do it. I especially love the innovative fashion handbags made from recycled rubber tire inner tubes or boat sails. Nothing better than walking down the street knowing that you didn’t let something go to waste…

Ever since the famous and fabulous Connaught Hotel* was refurbished and the lounge and bar areas re-styled by designer David Collins — it’s not only hip, it has become one of the places de rigeur to have cocktails after work, or meetings during the day. A smart set frequents. Nice buzzy energy. (* There is no file yet as neither I nor any member of the International Collective has stayed here - we’ll get someone here in 2009, promise) The Christmas decorations are exquisite, the fireplaces around every bend provide that warm din, the martinis are amongst the best in London and..my favorite in the lounge/glass enclosed light filled tea room are their homemade Madelines they serve with tea and coffee.  The chocolate Madelines are little puffs of bliss.

In funky, boisterous Soho, an entirely different kind of neighborhood to regal Mayfair, the new Milanese venture, Princi opened up recently with great acclaim. I haven’t seen something so unique and authentically of another culture open in London in quite a while. What I mean, in part, is that when inside, you truly feel you are in Milano! Long Marble slabs against the far right wall with small fountains pouring into the side walls, chunk block tall cubes for customers to gather around. The place is buzzy and a bit frenetic—fun! Now to the foodie delights.  The whole left side of the space is a long glass enclosed case with shelves behind showing off loaves of artisanal breads, baking sheets of fruit tarts, stacked eclairs, baskets of croissants (didn’t look this was their forte) trays of small pizzas, foccacia, small italian nibbles.  Hit this place for lunch on the go while in the area or a coffee and treat after a show nearby.  Fabulous - I wish the proprieter the best of luck and hope he opens one closer to my home in South Kensington soon…

Big Game

um. oh me, oh my, oh geez….

We just arrived 2 days ago at The Royal Malewane, a stunning, very special game reserve in Kruger Park on the South Africa side. One of my favorite things on safari, being in this setting?  Hearing the lions roar at night. It’s electrifying.  This lodge is truly stunning, every touch well thought through and cared for.  The first game drive in th evening we were super lucky to see and follow a pride for 90 minutes.  This is the stuff life’s special moments are made of … when we are so lucky to have them! MUCH more info to be published in the files when I return In January.  Look out for them….

I recently came across a great source for finds across the New England region: New England Fine Living - it’s kind of like a New England version of Suzanne’s Files!

Having grown up in the northeast, I love New England at all times of the year—except winter! Linda Calder publishes a truly informative online magazine type format that features the best the area has to offer and this month’s issue is perfect for holiday ideas and dining hotspots from everywhere from New Hampshire to Nantuket. The site is also packed full of traditional holiday recipes like Pumpkin Spice Pancakes and Sugared Pecans. Yums!

Super Boston shopping suggestions and recommendations for the perfect cozy winter retreats. Being I have my puppy Henry now, I’m thrilled that the site also features a pet-friendly hotel of the month; I’m always on the look out for somewhere I can take my Henry; unfortunately there are not many spots.

Take a look - send it on to friends and family who live in or travel to the area — I just had to tell you about it…www.newenglandfineliving.com

Oman

Assured winter sun, plenty to do, real culture, lovely people, totally safe.

I’m just back to London a week ago from this special place which had been on my list for years! Pleased I finally made it. Read our sum-up and the related files to steer you in the right direction.

Enjoy the sunshine, swimming with dolphins, visiting the colorful souk and awe-inspiring mosques…I just had to tell you about it!
